Tembo Tsuba

A large Tembo tsuba from the middle Edo period. 9.233 cm x 8.711 cm x 4.89 mmDecorated with hot stamps of a lattice pattern and kanji. The kanji here (大土、風) are an allusion to Pure Land Buddhism and the tsuba was likely the product of a temple. Pure Land’s origin is the Mayayana sect of Indian Buddhism which focus on proselytizing for the salvation of all. The work has ryohitsuana for kogai. $300
